Directions:
Muir Beach is located in southern Marin County. From 101, take the Mill Valley/Stinson Beach exit. At the second stop light (gas station on the corner), turn left onto CA-1. Stay on Highway 1 and follow signs to Stinson Beach. Turn west at the Pelican Inn and drive down the road to the parking lot. The road is steep and winding; vehicles over 35 feet long are not advised.

Portable toilets are located on the west side of the parking lot.
Site description:
Named for pioneering environmentalist John Muir, this small pocket beach is popular with locals and tourists. To reach the site, follow the trail leading from the southern end of the parking lot to the beach, near the outhouses. The survey area is the southern half of the beach.
Permit and visitor information:
The beach is within the Golden Gate Recreation Area. No permit is required for monitoring; however, if you plan to collect crabs for parasite analysis, a fishing license or scientific collecting permit is needed.
